Even with endless technology and resources at their disposal, Ferrari engineers sometimes still manage to make us scratch our heads and wonder, "why'd they do that?". Looking at the factory metal airbox covers in the F430 is one of those moments. Because the factory covers are made of metal, they have a tendency to absorb and retain a tremendous amount of heat from the engine bay, which then warms intake air and negatively effects performance. Ferrari clearly saw an opportunity for improvement, which is evidenced by the revised carbon fiber airbox covers used on the F430 Scuderia.
The engineering team at Werks1 also saw room for improvement and produced these beautiful carbon fiber airbox covers long before the Scuderia was even in the picture. As with all Werks1 carbon products, the F430 airbox covers are constructed using 100% pre-impregnated carbon fiber, which is then vacuum bagged and autoclave cured before receiving their final clearcoat. This process insures consistent strength throughout the entire part and removes any excess resin in the material. Carbon fiber, by it's nature, is significantly lighter then aluminum and does not absorb or retain heat nearly as much, which allows intake air to remain at a cooler temperature.
Physically the Werks1 airbox covers are identical to the original Ferrari part, with one small exception. The Werks1 design eliminates the humshold resonator in the factory airbox covers, which is essentially a small muffler (for lack of a better word) that minimizes intake noise. The added rumble from the intake is a nice addition that compliments the 430's exhaust and engine note perfectly.
